Description

The Prodigy 400 Fractal A5 putter is a slightly overstable approach disc that works into a straight flyer, molded in 400 Fractal plastic. It's built for players who want a predictable, reliable flight, and it's at its best on sidearm approaches. This listing is the Sea to Shining Sea release of the A5. It celebrates America's 250th with a special-edition stamp illustrated by Kelly Baber.

400 Fractal Plastic

400 is Prodigy's most popular plastic, a premium blend that's extremely durable with an impeccable grip, even when wet. It's often translucent to catch the sunlight, though it can be more opaque, and it has a stiff rim with more "pop" when you flex the center. Fractal uses a proprietary processing technique that splashes colors in a complex, abstract motif: calming, chaotic, and completely one-of-a-kind.

The Mold

The A5 is a slightly overstable approach disc that works in to become a straight flyer. Its smooth feel, shallow profile, and flat top make it ideal for sidearm approaches, it handles torque well, and its mild finish keeps it from skipping far from where it lands.

Stability

The A5 is stable. Stable discs fly straight for most of their flight and finish with a dependable fade. For right-hand backhand (RHBH) throwers, it flies straight with a reliable fade to the left at the end. Left-hand backhand (LHBH) throwers will see the mirror image, with the fade finishing to the right. Forehand flights flip that pattern: right-hand forehand (RHFH) follows the LHBH line and left-hand forehand (LHFH) follows the RHBH line. It suits players of every skill level who want a predictable flight.

Flight Numbers

Rating Value What it means
Speed 4 Slow putter speed, easy to control without much power.
Glide 3 Moderate glide that carries without sailing past the target.
Turn 0 No high-speed turn, so it holds its line early in flight.
Fade 2 A moderate, dependable fade at the end of the flight.

FAQ

Is the Prodigy A5 good for beginners?

Yes. Its mild finish and smooth feel make approaches easy.

Is the Prodigy A5 overstable?

Not really. The A5 is stable, rated 4/3/0/2, so it flies straight with a dependable fade rather than the hard hook of an overstable disc.

What's the difference between 400 Fractal and 500 plastic?

400 is durable and grippy, great when wet. 500 is less gummy with a stiffer flight plate and a pearlescent finish.

Does the Sea to Shining Sea A5 fly differently than the standard A5?

No. It's the same A5 mold, rated 4/3/0/2. What's different is the stamp, edition, and plastic, which can change the feel and grip a little.

What disc is similar to the Prodigy A5?

The Prodigy 300 A4 (4/4/-1/2) is a beaded approach disc with a similar flight.

How far does the Prodigy A5 fly?

With an average arm, expect roughly 260 feet. Distance depends heavily on your power and form, so stronger throwers will go farther and newer players shorter.
