Description

The Discraft ESP Heat distance driver is an easy-distance driver for new and developing players, molded in ESP plastic. It's built for new and developing players, and it's at its best on control, glide, and distance at slower arm speeds. This listing is the Paul McBeth Signature Series release of the Heat. Paul McBeth is a 6x PDGA World Champion.

ESP Plastic

ESP is Discraft's premier opaque, swirled plastic. It balances a gummy-yet-firm, tacky grip with high durability, which makes it a favorite for all-around everyday play. Your Heat in ESP will hold its flight well over time while giving you more grip than Discraft's harder Z plastic.

The Mold

The Heat debuted as the 2014 Ace Race proto and caught fire with players for its control, glide, and distance at slower arm speeds. It has a smaller rim for easier grip and is hailed as a breakthrough in distance for new and developing players.

Stability

The Heat is understable. Understable discs turn away from your throwing arm at speed, making turnovers and hyzer-flips easier and helping lower-power players fly straight. For right-hand backhand (RHBH) throwers, it tends to drift right during the fastest part of its flight, then shows a gentle fade back to the left at the end. Left-hand backhand (LHBH) throwers will see the mirror image, drifting left early and fading right at the end. Forehand flights flip that pattern: right-hand forehand (RHFH) follows the LHBH line and left-hand forehand (LHFH) follows the RHBH line. It suits beginners who need help getting straight flights as well as advanced players who want to shape turnovers.

Flight Numbers

Rating Value What it means
Speed 9 Distance-driver speed that needs good arm speed to fly as rated.
Glide 6 Huge glide that floats a long way with little effort.
Turn -3 Noticeable turn to the right (RHBH) at speed, great for turnovers and hyzer-flips.
Fade 1 Very little fade, so it finishes nearly straight.

FAQ

Is the Discraft Heat good for beginners?

Yes. Discraft calls the Heat a breakthrough in distance for new and developing players.

Is the Discraft Heat overstable?

No. The Heat is understable, rated 9/6/-3/1. Its turn makes it a better fit for turnovers and hyzer-flips than hard fades.

What's the difference between ESP and Z plastic?

ESP is opaque and swirled with a gummy-yet-firm, tacky grip. Z is harder, translucent, and glossy, with maximum durability that holds its original flight for years.

Does the Paul McBeth Signature Series Heat fly differently than the standard Heat?

No. The Paul McBeth Signature Series release uses the same Heat mold and is rated 9/6/-3/1, just like the standard Heat. What's different is the stamp and edition, so you get the same flight with a collectible look. Plastic can still change the feel and grip slightly.

What disc is similar to the Discraft Heat?

The Discraft Avenger SS (10/5/-3/1) is a faster understable driver with less glide.

How far does the Discraft Heat fly?

With an average arm, expect roughly 345 feet. Distance depends heavily on your power and form, so stronger throwers will go farther and newer players shorter.
